Hugo Takes the Overall Title at the Typhoon Bay!

In October 6, 2001 Hugo competed for the first time in an NPC Level IV (Open to Competitiors Statewide) drug tested show called the Typhoon Bay. For this show, Hugo dieted for 10 grueling weeks, trained for 45 minutes first thing in the morning, 60 minutes with weights at noon time, and 45 minutes of more cardio in the afternoon (details of his training routine and diet will be posted this week). He dieted down from 190 lbs at 12% body fat to 170 at 4% body fat and competed against an awesome line up at the lightweight division which consisted of a total of 11 competitors. At night after all competitiors performed their routines, Hugo was anounced as the Lightweight Champion. Later that night Hugo faced the Heavyweight Champion and after all of the dust settled Hugo came out vitorious becoming the first NPC Typhoon Bay Overral Champion.

In addition, Hugo also competed in the Mixed Pairs division along with bodybuilder Rhonda Panks and took second in that contest.
He weighted in at 162 the night before the show. After the carbo loading process finished he weighted a full 170lbs. His competition measurements at a height of 5'5" were:

Chest/Back Width: 50 inches
Waist: 27 inches
Thighs: 25 inches
Biceps: 17 inches
Calves: 16.5 inches

Hugo's Thoughts
It was an awesome experience to go through the process that a bodybuilder has to go through in order to compete.

However, if you are thinking seriously about entering a contest, know that this is an endeavor that will put your determination, body and endurance to the most extreme test. It will also put alot of strain in your family as well since for those weeks all you will basically do is train, eat, work and sleep. So if you decide to enter a show, ensure that everybody around you understands this and supports you. Without the suupport of those around you it will be very hard to succeed. I cannot thank my wife enough for supporting me 110% in this endeavor. I mean, she cooked for me all of my 8 meals, she took me to the posing classes every Thursday, helped me with the supplementation expenses, supported me morally all of the time, and understood my cold focused behavior. In addition, she spent all day of the contest by my side from 6am to 12 midnight (except for when I was backstage) and ensured that I had everything I needed. She worked as hard for the title as I did.

I also want to thank Tim Gardner, President of Body*Tech, and his awesome staff for helping me out with the diet aspect, the carbo loading (as well as the water manipulation on those last few hours before the show) and the posing (Thank You Tim! I could not have done it without you!). In addition, I want to thank my Parents-In-Law for taking care of my son until late at night every time that I had a Body*Tech meeting in addition to the constant never ending support. Also, many thanks to Allan Thomas from Millenium Gym for his constant support, Andre Hudson for his constant encouragement, my brother Raul for helping out with supplementation expenses as well as taking care of some of my business tasks, my parents for always believing in my ability to make things happen, everybody at work (especially Gordon Bremer, Tom Bingel, Kurt Diekemper and Randolph Lee) for their understanding and positive support, my friend Gene DellaSala (one of the best training partners I have ever had), Rhonda Panks for baby sitting me backstage throughout the show (and for sharing with me all of her awesome posing tricks-you are the best Rhonda), Dave Draper, Arnold Schawrzenegger and Frank Zane for without all of the knowledge that you all have shared it would have been impossible for me to be where I am now and finally EVERYBODY that took time (and money) away from their schedule in order to go and see me compete (you all served as my constant motivation to put on a good show and diet hard in order to look good-cannot thank you all enough!).
